I was about to shell out $26 for a new bottle of MAC Studio Fix Fluid when I realized that CVS was having a BOGO Free on select Revlon cosmetic items. Soooo... since I've only read good things about the ColorStay liquid foundation from
Christiana (who happens to have skin like mine, NOT shade, but concerns like oilies, occassional break outs, etc.) and knowing that Revlon's foundie cost only half as much as MAC's, I decided to have a look-see.
Using Christiana's experience as my personal reference [yea, I'm stalking u Tia!], it wasn't really hard for me to pick out a shade. I'm a couple shades darker than her, so it only made sense to pick out a bottle that was a couple shades darker than hers. So I ended up with 330 Natural Tan in the Combination/Oily Skin formula.

As soon as I got home, I had to test it out. And OMG, I love it. It reminds me of my Guerlain Parure Extreme... not in consistency (Guerlain is much, much more watery and easier to blend), but in result. I haven't been able to truly put it to a test yet, but so far, so good. It really left me super non-oily looking. Oilies are like my biggest problem with ANY foundation. I've tried L'oreal, Maybelline, Sephora, Benefit, Smashbox, Dior, Bare Escentuals, random mineral companies, name it! I've probably tried it. MAC does a decent job for a couple hours then it fails me and I have to touch-up, but so far, only Guerlain has really been able to tackle that. It's too bad that Guerlain costs too damn much, I don't like wearing it every day cuz it was so expensive, I just wear it on my "pretty" days LOL. So, I really hope this Revlon ColorStay is good to me, too.

Here are comparative swatches. The biggest no-no so far with the Revlon foundie is that damn white-cast (it happens in pictures w/flash). You can see that it's got this weird whitish-greyish glow to it, and that's only on my arm! Imagine it on my face! I'm gonna have to really play around with this product + bronzer to get a natural look in pictures. In person, this shade actually looks a lot more like the 2 middle swatches. The MAC Studio Stick has absolutely no white cast, and has a lot more yellow/golden and olive tones to it. The Guerlain, also doesn't have a white cast but has less yellow/golden (and virtually no olive) tones than the MAC, but more than the Revlon. I put the MAC Studio Fix Fluid swatch on there, just in case someone out there needs it. Right now, I am an NC40, but during the middle of winter, I was an NC37. So if anyone else out there are those shades, then this shade of ColorStay
may work for you as well.
If you paid attention, I said I checked out CVS because of the BOGO Free... so what else did I get? Revlon ColorStay Mineral Foundation in 070 Medium Beige.

Originally, I got this as a possible bronzer or for contour. But when I actually tried it on, I was surprised to find out that it was REALLY sheer, and not as dark as it looked. I'm not gonna return it, I've decided to keep it around because it seems like it'll make a really nice setting powder.

These are comparative swatches, again. The reason I used eyeshadow applicators was because ALL of these products are incredibly sheer. I tried to swatch them on my arm, but they just didn't show up. So I figured, this is the best that I could do to give y'all an idea about this product. Notice, the top row, I compare it to MAC MSFN in Medium Plus and the bottom row is compared with MAC MSFN in Medium Dark. I use Medium Dark for a lightly bronzed effect, and sometimes for eyeshadow. I use Medium Plus for my setting powder, but I've always thought it to be a just a smidge too light on me. So looking at these 3 shades side by side, I can tell the Medium Deep from Revlon will probably end up being the perfect setting powder, because it appears to be the perfect "middle" shade of the two.
(
PS. I'm FULLY aware MAC also offers a shade in the MSFN line named "Medium Deep", but that shade has a bit too much pink/peach undertones for me).
Overall, I'm happy with my purchases, and I want to thank Christiana with being so detailed in her post because it definitely helped A LOT with making my decision. Hope this helps some of you out there who are interested in saving a bit of money!
HAPPY MONDAY!
